Iris Apfel made a name for herself with her signature style incorporating bold colors, textures, and prints, along with her trademark oversized round glasses. An established fashion icon, she’s starred in a documentary, appeared in Vogue Italia, was on the cover of Dazed & Confused, created a MAC Cosmetics line, launched jewelry and fashion lines, and published the book Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon.
In 2018, she became the oldest person to have a Barbie doll created in her image. To top off her list of milestones, she just signed a major modeling contract with IMG at age 97. IMG is a global agency that represents supermodels such as Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Kate Moss, Chrissy Teigen, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid.
Wise words from Apfel, “I don’t think a number should make any difference and make you stop working. I think retirement is a fate worse than death. I love to work, and love my work. I feel sorry for people who don’t like what they do. I do it now to the exclusion of everything else. I meet interesting, creative people, my juices flow and I really have a fine time.”
