UK Blocks Porn

Next month, the UK will introduce a “porn block” which aims to prevent minors from accessing pornography online. Interesting?

The controversial policy has been widely criticized and some concerns include privacy problems, porn monopolies, and unsafe sites.

How will we know if users are minors?

  • Adult sites will check user age by verifying a credit card, drivers license, or passport through systems such as Age ID, owned by MindGeek (owner of Pornhub and YouPorn).
  • Individuals can buy “porn passes” for £4.99 ($6.60) from local shops, showing ID (like buying alcohol).

Porn sites that don’t age check will be blocked by internet providers. Legislation hasn’t addressed social media sites that host adult content (Reddit and Twitter).
